Lightning Strikes 3

For years I have been seeking for another thunderstorm image after capturing two of them within just one week in 2013. As we were overlooking the beautiful Sicilian gem Isola Bella, dark storm clouds were rolling in. I vigilantly observed the scene while I tried to catch a lightning in the framed composition, and I was thrilled to bits when it finally happened! The strong single beam struck straight into the Ionian Sea, perfectly lighting up the water in the extension of the coastal road. Minutes later, the sky turned literally black and we had to seek shelter as the heaviest of rainfalls ploughed down.
Misty morning

I spotted this lone tree not far from my hometown on a chilly winter evening, and I immediately knew I had to return to this place early the next day, hoping to capture a foggy scenery in soft morning light. My initial plan was to isolate the beautiful tree in a more minimalistic composition. Eventually I just had to include the grotesquely shaped frost covered blades of grass as their motionlessness visualizes the absolute quietness which I experienced in this calm, fog-cushioned setting. The light turned out even better than what I was hoping for and the smooth color transition from light blue to orange in the sky adds a warm touch to the otherwise fairly cold picture.
White Horses
Norðurland vestra, Iceland
It was a bizarre sight when we drove along this paddock. A couple of Icelandic horses were standing perfectly aligned, all of them looking in the same direction as if they were observing something which was invisible to us. Soon we figured out that they were sheltering each other from the icy cold with their backs right against the harsh wind. As we approached them, they started to move apart, however these two white horses stayed closely together, perfectly blending into the snowy winter landscape. Their beautiful coarse-haired mane is scattered by the wind which gives a slight impression of the elements these strong animals have to withstand.
